Generally federal and state laws give public and private landlords discretion to reject applicants with a criminal record.   Recently with the new “HUD guidance on discrimination liability”, owners and operators are looking for the balance of keeping all residents safe while providing affordable housing for those who need it.   This new guidance does not prevent the adoption of reasonable and flexible policies on previous criminal activity.  There is still a need in our communities to house those with criminal backgrounds in affordable units.  Here is a chance to hear from a housing authority that serves the Denver area and how they have incorporated guidelines to work with people that have these extra obstacles to access affordable housing.

Issues discussed include:
•         Housing provider liability and defenses under the disparate Impact standard.
•         How to introduce screening/background checks into your organization
•         Creating your own internal policy
•         Front line of homelessness and disrupts families
•         Resident screening best practices

This webinar is particularly geared for:
•         Public Housing Authorities
•         Property Managers
•         Property Owners
•         Compliance Professionals
