Efficient Living in Smaller Spaces, Presented by Michael Fiebig, SBSA
Friday, May 17th from 11:30- 1:30
Volunteers of America
2660 Larimer Street, Denver, 80205
Free for Housing Colorado members
Post WWII, a time when gas was $0.25 gallon, electric bills weren’t increasing heart rates and watering lawns didn’t drain your wallet, the American housing economy was prosperous. Materials, energy and land were inexpensive resulting in the construction of larger and larger homes. But as we all know, this trend wasn’t destined to continue on and certainly wasn’t sustainable for affordable housing. Recently, a new movement has emerged: smart planning and design in smaller spaces. Join Michael Fiebig, R.A., AIA, LEED GA from SBSA, as we explore examples and show how modern homes can be efficient in less square footage. Michael’s experience in multifamily and single family housing will set the stage of an informative luncheon on just how this movement can impact the affordable housing community.

Energy Efficiency Upgrades in Affordable Housing
Friday, January 25, 2013 from 11:30 am -- 1:30 pm
Presented by Ravi Malhotra, President, iCAST
Rick Garcia, Regional Administrator, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Cris White, Executive Director and CEO, CHFA
Palace Construction, 7 South Galapago Street, Denver.
Affordability is a matter of not just rent but also utilities. If you have residents who are paying as much or more each month for utilities as they do for rent, its perhaps not affordable housing anymore. To increase affordability, there may not be much you can do about the rent but you can reduce the utility bills. Energy costs will only increase in the future, so what you do now to reduce utility cost will provide more and more benefits in the future. For owners paying utilities, reduction in utility costs from energy efficiency improvements can add to the operating budget cash-flow for the next 20 years. There are proven processes that will reduce your energy consumption and create a safe and comfortable environment for your residents. We will share with you the potential ways to improve your facility, so you can reduce your utility bills without having to outlay capital costs.
