Colorado Flooding Resources

Earlier this month, we were all saddened by the catastrophic floods in northern Colorado and other locations around the state.  As professionals in the affordable housing industry, we are well aware of the importance of safe and decent housing, and how devastating the flood damage is for individuals and families, regardless of their income.  The events of recent weeks have also placed housing in the spotlight – with statewide vacancies hovering at historic lows in many areas of the state, the chronic shortage of rental housing will be further exacerbated.  In the affordable marketplace, the need becomes even more desperate.

Below are a variety of resources and opportunities to help the communities impacted by the floods.

Affordable housing providers are encouraged to place their properties on Colorado Housing Search, a clearinghouse of affordable rental properties statewide. Visit Colorado Housing Search's website.

Volunteers at the Disaster Recovery Centers have relied on this resource heavily when assisting families in obtaining housing. Once applicants have been approved for a hotel voucher by FEMA, they can search for hotels currently approved to accept them at FEMA AVAC Hotels website.

Landlords, homeowners and tenants in need of flood-related legal aid can make a request to speak with an attorney: at Colorado Flood Relief's Ask an Attorney webpage.

For a list of material needs for donations, please review FEMA's In-Kind Donations: 2 Ways to Donate
website. Financial donations are also needed.
