Brian Cohen


Brian Cohen is a veteran of the construction industry with over 30 years of experience. As Director of Business Development for Taylor Kohrs, he builds his career on harboring client relationships from the first phone call through project close-out. His dedication to teamwork and attention to detail make Brian a leader in strategic planning, connecting with clients, building sustainable partnerships and meeting client objectives. He serves on the Housing Colorado Membership committee, ULI Impact awards Committee and NAIOP Rocky Mountain Real Estate Challenge Committee.


How did you end up in affordable housing?
I was introduced to affordable housing 4 years ago upon joining Taylor Kohrs and reviewing our affordable housing experience.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Meeting people.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Composing responses to RFPs.

How did you get involved with Housing Colorado?
I became aware of Housing Colorado through industry peers. After reviewing Housing Colorado’s web site and mission, we joined.

How do you currently serve Housing Colorado and what do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I currently serve on the membership committee and enjoy supporting Housing Colorado by sharing the wonderful work of Housing Colorado and its members.

What are some exciting progressions or projects currently going on in your work?
We recently broke ground on two affordable housing projects:
The Vistas at Panorama Pointe with M.E.M. Westminster Property LLP
Lakota Ridge Senior Apartments with Community Resources and Housing Development Corporation
Town of Castle Rock Fire Station #152
Banner Self Storage

What project, program or undertaking are you most proud of and why?
Earning my MBA while working full time.

What is the best career advice you have ever been given?
Follow your gut.

Who has been an instrumental mentor through your career so far or who do you look up to?
My father provided me with the foundation for a productive career.

If you were given the chance to go on a vacation to any place of your choosing, where would you go and what would you do?
I would travel to Alaska.  My itinerary would include: Denali National Park, whale watching, salmon fishing, Kenai National Park and halibut fishing.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Colorado?
Avelina in LoDo.

What book are you currently reading? Are you enjoying it?
The Oregon Trail by Rinker Buck. I am enjoying it very much.  The book relives the history of the trail and what remains of it today. Buck travelled it in a covered wagon in 2011.
