Announcing the Hiring of Elena Wilken, Housing Colorado’s New Executive Director

After a comprehensive search of many capable applicants, the Housing Colorado Board of Directors is excited to announce the hire of Elena Wilken as the new Executive Director of Housing Colorado. Her first day in this position will be September 4th, 2018.

Elena Wilken comes to Housing Colorado with a strong, proven background in association management and advocacy work. Since 2007, she has served as the Executive Director of the Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (also known as CASTA). At CASTA, Ms. Wilken established many important relationships with legislators and boasted many legislative wins on behalf of the transit industry. She is excited to bring this momentum into her work at Housing Colorado during this critical time for the affordable housing industry. Also, at CASTA, Elena directed impactful educational programming, including two annual conferences. Ms. Wilken looks forward to meeting and getting to know the Housing Colorado membership at the upcoming annual NOW! Conference this October.

Lee Patke, 2018 Housing Colorado Board Chair, says “The news of Elena’s hire is a win for the affordable housing industry in Colorado, and for our members. We are fortunate to have a strong organization that is well positioned to support solutions to the affordable housing needs of our state. Elena’s focus will be building on the success and impact of Housing Colorado that has grown for many years. We are thrilled to have such a tested and proven leader to bring voice and action to the affordable housing industry as our new E.D.”

In response to accepting this position, Elena Wilken says, “I am excited for this opportunity to bring my statewide network, policy analysis and association management experience to Housing Colorado.  Affordable housing is critical to Colorado’s economic vitality and quality of life metrics, and I am eager to work with the Housing Colorado membership to further the organization’s goals and vision.”

Housing Colorado is in a strong position for the future. Building on past successes and firm foundations created by the outgoing leadership, the Board of Directors looks to Ms. Wilken’s leadership to sustain and grow Housing Colorado’s influence in the community and to strengthen the industry through education, networking, and advocacy. Ms. Wilken has embraced the mission of Housing Colorado – to promote the preservation and production of quality affordable housing for low and moderate income Coloradans through statewide education and advocacy, in order to build strong and healthy communities.

Welcome, Elena! We are excited to have you.
